Hepatitis C treatments have had age and genotype restrictions removed, Nurse Practitioners included as prescribers.

From April 1, 2020, the following changes for Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) listed hepatitis C treatments have been made to the PBS general schedule:

  • Removal of the requirement to provide the hepatitis C virus genotype at the time of application
  • Removal of the population criteria: Patient must be aged 18 years or older

Nurse practitioners included as authorised prescribers for HCV, HBV, and HIV medications

Nurse Practitioners (NPs) experienced in the care and management of people living with HIV and hepatitis B in the community and hepatitis C in corrective services settings are now eligible to prescribe s100 medicines.
