Treasurer Scott Morrison revealed that Government spending on the new hepatitis C drugs led Australia's economic growth in the last quarter.
Australia has had 25 years of continuous economic growth. Figures released on 7 September showed a 3.3 per cent growth for the last quarter with Government spending the biggest contributor.
Spending on new drugs listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme was identified by the Treasurer, referring specifically to the hepatitis C drugs, as one of the leading drivers.
