NOhep, endorsed by the World Health Organisation, is launched globally by the World Hepatitis Alliance on 28 July - World Hepatitis Day.

To show local support for NOhep, the Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Martin Haese, Charles Sturt Mayor Angela Evans, Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty, Norwood Payneham and St Peters Mayor Robert Bria and Onkaparinga Mayor Lorraine Rosenberg welcomed ‘BFG’ liver, O’liver, to their cities.

Left unmanaged, both conditions can lead to serious liver disease including liver cancer and liver failure.Over 11,850 South Australians live with hepatitis C and a further 14,400 live with hepatitis B. Hepatitis B and C are liver diseases that result from infection by the hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses.

Fortunately, new non-invasive screening technology makes it easy to monitor these conditions; and new highly-successful treatments can cure hepatitis C and effectively manage hepatitis B. There is also a safe and effective vaccine to protect against hepatitis B.

South Australians who need more information are urged to Hepatitis SA on 1800 HEP ABC.
