Hepatitis SA and MOSAIC services will be presenting two viral hepatitis treatment workshops for community and health workers, as part of World Hepatitis Day activities.
The workshops will comprise:
Hepatitis 101 10 am to 12 pm
This will be an information and education-based forum for those wishing to increase their knowledge and understanding of how viral hepatitis affects people, and the support and treatment options available. It is ideal for workers who may encounter clients living with or affected by viral hepatitis. Topics include:
- Overview of hepatitis A, B, & C
- Services and referral pathways
- Wellbeing and treatment options.
Hepatitis Masterclass - 1.00pm - 3.00pm
An in-depth review of treatment and management of hepatitis C in 2016
This forum will provide an in-depth look at the new hepatitis C treatments that were approved by the Australian Government in March and May 2016. Information provided will be ideal for those whose work intersects the blood borne virus (BBV) sector, and who already have a basic understanding of hepatitis C. This forum will specifically address the treatment options and referral pathways, and answer any questions.
Presented by Rosalie Altus, Viral Hepatitis Liaison Nurse @ Flinders Medical Centre, the forum will include the following topics:
- New treatments; duration, side-effects, response rates
- Referral pathways, process, and access
- Drug interactions and contraindications
- Workup, monitoring and follow up
- Working with specific populations and levels of liver damage/disease
- Information and support options available in SA.
A panel discussion and Q&A will follow the main delivery.
